Live Pet Portraits: Stationery Fest
10-minute pet portraits on Stationery Fest commemorative cards
Along with my prints and zines at Stationery Fest, I offered guests to text me pictures of their pets which I would draw in fountain pen ink.
On the back of every card, I printed one of two illustrations that I designed exclusively for Stationery Fest, and put them inside a small vinyl sleeve to protect it. I wanted these cards to be small enough to fit on the back of a phone case or wallet so they could take a little piece of art with them!
This ended up being my best seller at Stationery Fest, and at the end of the 3 day event, I drew over 100 pets.
My sign and sample portrait! I used fountain pen ink, pencil, and sometimes some diluted pink watercolor to complete each pet portrait.
I was not a very good documenter of this experience, and didn't take ANY in progress pictures. Luckily my boothmate Victoria, snagged this picture of me mid-portrait! When guests returned, I loved watching them point out their pet from the lineup of portraits that were waiting to get picked up.
The backs of the pet portraits. These are photocard sized cards so that they could be kept in the back of a phone or wallet! It also meant that if they wanted to carry them as a keychain or hang them up, there were plenty of options online for them to purchase. I painted 2 stationery themed illustrations for the back, and added the name of the festival and the dates it took place.
I wasn't able to get a picture of every single portrait, but luckily, if the guest was planning to pick up at the end of the day, I had a picture to text them back when it was done!
You might notice a few duplicates. Sometimes the guest would ask for multiple copies! A few times, I did the portrait twice because for whatever reason I didn't like the first version. If that happened, I'd do the second version free of charge and give both to the guest!
